Nerja has about 23 000 inhabitants and is a clean, lively and beautiful city on the Costa del Sol, 50 km east of Málaga and 130 km away from Granada. This area of Spain has been able to maintain the Andalusisian lifestyle of long ago and still keep pace with the development of a modern lifestyle.
Nerja lies on cliffs at the foot of the Almijara mountain range, and provides an ideal setting for the sun as it slowly sinks on the horizon to signal the end of another day. Nerja, christened by the Arabs as «Narixa», the rich source, has a perfect climate and is a paradise – warm in winter and not too hot in summer, pure air, beautiful beaches, and the ocean is crystal clean, tropical vegetation, strawberries, advocados, tomatoes, and sugarcane as well as many colorful flowers that bloom the whole year round.
The impressive cave "Cueva de Nerja" close to the city is well worth a visit. Every year the cave is bought to life with the "Festival de Musica y Danza".
