The country
Greece, officially the Hellenic Republic,
is a country in southern Europe on the tip of the Balkan peninsula. It has land boundaries with Bulgaria, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Albania to the north, and with Turkey to the east. The waters of the Aegean Sea border Greece to the east, and those of the Ionian and Mediterranean Sea to the west and south.
The climate
May is considered to be the best month since it is not to hot yet. During the dry season from June to October the sun shines on an average 10 hours per day and temperatures rise up to 32°C. In August it can be cool in the evenings due to strong northerly winds, so a sweater ist recommendable.
Currency
The Euro is the official currency since March 1st 2002. Bancomats for the use of EC–cards are available everywhere. Banks are open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and in tourist centres also in the evenings.
Shopping
Store opening hours are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well as from 5 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., some souvenir shops are open even until 11 p.m.
